Understanding What You Hear: A Constructive Analogy

Each of these terms is used interchangeably and refers to the skill of listening to spoken language, extracting meaning, and understanding what was said!
It is a complex task and one we generally don’t think too much about. After all, understanding what is said to us is an ability that seems to materialize in babies as they grow up, without a lot of overt teaching on our part.
Now for our analogy. In the picture, you see a fine brick house, perhaps like other brick houses you may have admired without a lot of thought about how it was actually constructed. For this analogy, we are going to think about that.
